Laitex significantly involved in Stora Enso’s big investment in Oulu

Stora Enso, a leading provider of renewable products in the pulp and paper industry, has announced a significant billion-euro investment to convert an idle paper machine at its Oulu mill in Finland into a consumer board production line. As part of the investment Laitex will design and implement a completely new biofuel receiving station and the associated conveyors.

Laitex, a Finnish company specializing in material handling solutions, will be supplying the Oulu Mill with a fuel receiving system for side tipping trucks, automatic sampling system, conveyors to open fuel yard and boiler, biomass stacker and screw reclaimer under fuel yard storage pile. The primary material to be handled is mostly wood chips and bark.

In addition to the equipment supply, Laitex will also be responsible for the erection and commissioning, new truck receiving building with dust removal system, equipment instrumentation and piping. The installation phase is scheduled to commence in Autumn 2023 and commissioning is set for June 2024.

This project is a prime example of how companies can, but also need to collaborate to create sustainable solutions in the pulp and paper industry. With Laitex’s material handling solution, Stora Enso will be able to receive a higher volume of trucks, including new types, and store more biomass in the fuel yard.

“This is an important project in our green transition growth strategy, and we are honored to have been selected to be part of Stora Enso’s investment in the Oulu mill. This opportunity allows us to demonstrate our expertise in providing outstanding Finnish technology solutions and our commitment to delivering sustainable and innovative solutions to our customers.” comments Laitex’ CEO Lasse Kurronen.
