Laitex Joins the Science-Based Targets Initiative

Laitex, a leader in bulk material handling and conveyor technology, has taken a bold step by joining the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This decision reflects Laitex’s strong commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

What is the science-based targets initiative?

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) guides companies in setting specific and ambitious emissions reduction targets. These targets align with climate science and aim to limit global warming to well below 2°C, ideally below 1.5°C. Already, more than 5,000 companies worldwide have joined SBTi, making it a critical player in the fight against climate change.

“By joining the SBTi, we are committing to measurable and impactful actions that align with global efforts to climate change,” said Lasse Kurronen, CEO of Laitex.

Laitex’s Commitment to Sustainability

Laitex’s decision to join SBTi is a testament to the company’s dedication to integrating science-based targets into its business strategy. Specifically, this means Laitex will assess its current emissions and then implement strategies to significantly reduce them. By investing in innovative technologies and improving energy efficiency, Laitex is not only committed to making a measurable impact but also to leading by example.

“Our expertise in bulk material handling and conveyor technologies puts us in a unique position to lead the way in sustainable industrial practices,” added VP, Sales Timo Kupsanen.

Aligning with the Paris Agreement

The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to below 2°C, with efforts to keep it below 1.5°C. Consequently, by joining the SBTi, Laitex directly contributes to these global targets. Specifically, Laitex commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. The company will continue to work towards its long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

“Aligning our operations with the Paris Agreement and setting Science-Based Targets is crucial for the future of our planet and our business. It’s about being part of a global solution,” said HSEQ Team Lead Jussi Pääkkönen.

Over 7,000 Companies Have Joined SBTi

Laitex joins a growing movement of over 7,000 companies committed to SBTi. This reflects a significant shift in the corporate world—where sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity. By joining SBTi, Laitex is not only preparing for the future but also positioning itself as a leader in sustainability.

The company will now focus on developing and implementing a sustainability strategy aligned with its science-based targets. This, in turn, will involve collaboration across the organization to ensure sustainability becomes a core part of every business decision.

By joining the Science-Based Targets initiative, Laitex is clearly serious about making a positive environmental impact. As the company works towards its goals, it continues to prove that sustainability and success in bulk material handling and conveyor technologies can go hand in hand.

We encourage other companies and stakeholders to take similar action, aligning their operations with the latest climate science and committing to science-based targets in the fight against climate change.
