Testing Complex Mineral & Mining Materials at Laitex Flow Lab

At Laitex, we drive innovation with deep material knowledge. In 2024, our Flow Lab helped mining and mineral processing industries improve their bulk material handling. Through testing and analysis, we examined flow behavior, conveyability, and handling challenges of various complex mineral materials. In 2024, we have tested more than 40 different materials.

Materials We Tested in 2024: Mining & Mineral Focus

Our Flow Lab team ran advanced simulations and physical tests on these materials:

1. Complex Sulphide Ore

Complex sulphide ore is a natural mix of metal-bearing minerals. It has varying moisture levels and high abrasiveness. This diverse composition makes it tough to transport and process in bulk.

2. Lithium-Ion Battery Waste

Lithium-ion battery waste includes crushed cells, metals, and residues. Its uneven particle size, dust potential, and reactive elements pose challenges in recovery and recycling.

3. Tailings

Tailings sludge is a byproduct of mineral processing. It has high water content and a thick, sticky texture. Its flow can change significantly based on particle composition and slurry concentration.

4. Potassium Sulfate

Potassium sulfate is a fine, crystalline fertilizer that absorbs moisture. This can cause clumping or caking, especially with changing humidity.

5. Bentonite Aqueous Suspension

Bentonite in water forms a thick, gelatinous slurry. It is known for its ability to swell and is used in sealing, drilling, and water retention. However, its handling can be tricky due to its thick properties.

6. Sulfur Concentrate

Sulfur concentrate is usually yellow and granular. It can oxidize, create dust, and corrode metals. It is sensitive to temperature changes and needs controlled storage to remain stable.

7. Spodumene Concentrate

Spodumene concentrate is a key source of lithium. It is a coarse, abrasive mineral with varying particle sizes. It is widely used in battery and glass production, and its hardness makes processing challenging.

As new materials emerge and the mining industry changes, the Laitex Flow Lab leads in material handling innovation. We are dedicated to partnering with clients worldwide to test, simulate, and solve tough material flow challenges.

FLOW MUST GO ON, and with Laitex, it does.
